19th August 2020 - The Racing Post reports that Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have boosted their spring arsenal by acquiring the high-class Sir Dragonet with the aim being the Cox Plate and potentially the Melbourne Cup.
Maher and owner Ozzie Kheir have struck a deal with Coolmore on the highly touted four-year-old, who is currently undergoing final vet checks.
The Group 3-winning son of Camelot started favourite for last year’s Derby, finishing fifth behind Anthony Van Dyck, and has raced four times in 2020.
He has finished runner-up on each occasion, most recently in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh behind star mare Magical.
“Sir Dragonet has got a massive pedigree,” said Will Bourne, bloodstock manager for Ciaron Maher Racing.
“He’s from the family of Galileo and is highly rated. It’s a quality purchase and we couldn’t be more excited.”
Sir Dragonet is expected to enter quarantine in September before travelling out to Australia on the first shipment.
