Melbourne Cup Carnival solidifies global status with record broadcast coverage across all major continents

Monday, 4th November 2024 - The The Melbourne Cup Carnival will enjoy record TV exposure with Australia’s greatest horse racing festival to be aired on 28 sporting networks, covering 228 territories.

The Lexus Melbourne Cup, known as ‘The Race that Stops a Nation’™, will headline the four-day meeting. Run on Tuesday 5th November, the $8.56m feature race takes place at Flemington Racecourse where the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) and HBA Media will co-produce a bespoke world feed for expectant audiences.

The VRC’s two-hour broadcast will spotlight the international allure of the Lexus Melbourne Cup, showcasing its rich history and the compelling stories of top global contenders. Hong Kong-based jockey Andrea Atzeni recently expressed admiration for the unique atmosphere of the Carnival, while UK trainer Brian Ellison is optimistic about his horse, Onesmoothoperator, who has seen his odds shorten to 12-1 after a victory in the 2024 Geelong Cup.

HBA Media (HBA), the Victoria Racing Club’s (VRC) dedicated global distribution agency, has secured improved distribution for the wider Carnival days. Penfolds Victoria Derby Day, Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Crown Oaks Day and TAB Champions Stakes Day will be headlined by FOX Sports in the USA, bringing the Melbourne Cup Carnival to over 70 million American homes.

Six new networks join the Aussie party, including Rogers (Canada), Eurovision (20 European dark market territories), Viaplay (Scandinavia, Netherlands), NTV (Mongolia), Reuters (Global News) and TransWorld Sports (Global Magazine Show), plus several key renewals. These additions promise to enhance the global reach of the event, offering fans even more access to the festivities surrounding Australia's premier horse racing event.
