The Irish Champions Stakes, held at Leopardstown Racecourse in September, is a Group 1 flat race on turf run over a mile-and-a-quarter.
Although a high-calibre race in its own right, it is often treated as a useful prep race for the remaining major contests in the Autumn schedule such as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the Breeders' Cup and the Lexus Melbourne Cup. In fact, the winner now earns an automatic invitation to compete in the same year's Breeders' Cup Turf.
Taking place towards the end of the British and Irish flat racing season (early September), the event is one of celebration. Returning this year to headline the after-party will be hitmaker Mark McCabe, alongside Bazza Band and DJ Lance West.
